Tao Dan Park (or Tao Dan Cultural Park), is a park in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
History
Monument to wipe Dinh Bo Linh at Tao Dan park
This entire land belongs to the Palace of the Governor-General of France. In 1869, the French built the road Miss Clavell separated the garden from the Palace. The other three sides are rue Chasseloup-Laubat to the north, rue Verdun to the west, and rue Taberd to the south. The garden was officially named Jardin de la Ville, but Vietnamese people used to call it the Garden of Mr. Thuong [1] or the Garden of Cilantro, probably préau transliteration (French, meaning “tiled yard”).
Following that, the city built additional facilities in the garden for the Hieu Hieu Music Society (Société philharmonique) in 1896, Freemasonry (Franc-maçonnerie) in 1897, and the Saigon Sports Club (Cercle Sportif Saigonnais) in 1902 including football field, pool, and tennis court. That football field was at that time the only one qualified to host foreign teams.

In 1926, on the corner of Chasseloup-Laubat and Verdun streets, the government built an Institut de puériculture to educate children.
After the French withdrew, Palace Governor-General became the Presidential Palace and the garden name was changed to “Tao Dan Garden”. The four surrounding streets were also renamed to Huyen Tran Princess, Hong Thap, Le Van Duyet and Nguyen Du. The Pediatric Institute was used as the Ministry of Health in the Republic of Vietnam period. The garden remains the main park of the city.
After 1975
Tao Dan Garden changed its name to “Tao Dan Cultural Park”, and has a designated area for children to play. The Saigon Sports Club also changed its name to the Cultural Club, with a number of trade shops and the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Cultural Palace. The Saigon Food Company also opens its headquarters here. However, the garden is still known for its many green trees. The park is also the place to display spring flower exhibitions every occasion before the Chinese New Year. Truong Dinh Street runs between the park, dividing the park into two parts. There is an underground car park and shopping mall project under the park invested by a local company.
In 1992, the Temple of Hung Kings was built in the park, and was restored in late 2011.
